If you are visiting Da Nang for the first time, My Khe Beach will probably be one of the easiest places to add to your itinerary. The beach sits close to the city, costs nothing to visit, and works equally well for an early-morning swim, a few quiet hours on the sand, or an evening walk before dinner.

I have been around this part of Da Nang at different times of the day, and the experience changes quite a lot. Early morning feels local and active. Midday can be very hot and relatively quiet. Late afternoon brings swimmers, families, beach sports, and a much livelier atmosphere.

In this Triplory travel blog guide, I’ll share what I think you should know before visiting My Khe Beach, including the best time to go, swimming safety, how long to spend there, and whether it deserves a place in your Da Nang itinerary.

Where Is My Khe Beach?
My Khe Beach runs along Da Nang’s eastern coastline, facing the East Sea.

It is only a short drive from the Han River and central Da Nang, which is one reason it is so convenient for travelers. Hotels, cafés, seafood restaurants, convenience stores, and other services are concentrated around the beachfront.

Vietnam Tourism describes My Khe as the most popular of Da Nang’s main southern beaches and notes that the beach becomes particularly busy before sunset when locals arrive to swim and play sports.

You do not need to organize a dedicated day trip just to see it.

If your hotel is near the beach, you may end up visiting several times during your stay.

What Is My Khe Beach Like?
The main appeal is its long stretch of sand combined with easy access to the city.

You can swim, walk along the shore, relax on the sand, watch local fishermen, or simply sit somewhere nearby with a drink and enjoy the sea view.

One thing I like about My Khe is that it still feels connected to everyday life in Da Nang. Early in the morning, you will often see people exercising, swimming, jogging, playing sports, or preparing for the day. Vietnam Tourism specifically recommends experiencing the beach early, when locals gather along the shore and fishermen bring in their catch.

If you want a completely isolated tropical beach, My Khe probably will not give you that experience.

It is an urban beach, with hotels and roads directly behind it. For many travelers, though, that convenience is exactly the attraction.

Best Time to Visit My Khe Beach
For me, early morning and late afternoon are the best times to visit.

If you can wake up early, try arriving around sunrise. The temperature is cooler, the light is softer, and there is plenty of local activity without the strong midday sun.

Vietnam Tourism also recommends early morning or late afternoon for enjoying My Khe.

Late afternoon is another good option. You can swim, walk along the beach, and continue directly to dinner afterward.

I would avoid spending too much time exposed to the sun around midday, particularly during the hotter months. Shade can be limited once you move away from beachfront businesses.

Bring sunscreen, water, sunglasses, and something to protect yourself from the sun if you plan to stay for several hours.

Is It Safe to Swim at My Khe Beach?
Swimming at My Khe is common, but sea conditions are not the same every day.

I prefer swimming in areas where other swimmers are present and lifeguards are operating. Pay attention to flags, signs, and instructions from beach staff.

Do not assume the water is safe simply because the beach looks calm from the shore.

Conditions can become rough during bad weather, particularly in the wetter part of the year. If warning flags are displayed or lifeguards ask people to leave the water, I would stay out.

Parents traveling with children should choose supervised swimming zones and remain close to them in the water.

I would also avoid swimming far from shore alone, especially early in the morning or late in the evening when fewer people are around.

What Can You Do at My Khe Beach?
You do not need a complicated plan.

Most travelers come here to:

  • Swim
  • Walk or jog along the shore
  • Watch sunrise
  • Relax on the sand
  • Play beach sports
  • Have seafood nearby
  • Stop for coffee or drinks along the beachfront
There are also various water activities available depending on weather conditions and the operator.

Personally, I would not try to pack too much into a My Khe visit. The beach works best as one of the slower parts of a Da Nang trip.

A morning swim followed by breakfast or coffee nearby can be just as enjoyable as spending half a day here.

How Long Should You Spend at My Khe Beach?
Around one to three hours is enough for many visitors.

If you mainly want to see the beach, take photos, and walk along the shore, an hour may be sufficient.

Allow two or three hours if you want to swim and relax.

Travelers staying at a beachfront hotel do not really need to schedule My Khe as a separate attraction. Visit when the weather is good, then return another morning or evening if you enjoy it.

If you only have one day in Da Nang, I would combine My Khe with nearby attractions rather than dedicating the entire day to the beach.

What to Do Near My Khe Beach
My Khe is also useful as a base because several Da Nang attractions are relatively easy to reach.

You can combine the beach with:

  • Son Tra Peninsula
  • Linh Ung Pagoda
  • Dragon Bridge
  • Han River
  • Marble Mountains
  • An Thuong area
There are also many seafood restaurants and bars around the beachfront. Vietnam Tourism highlights the concentration of seafood restaurants and rooftop bars near My Khe, making it easy to continue into dinner after a late-afternoon visit.

I would still check menus and prices before ordering seafood, particularly when items are priced by weight.

Is My Khe Beach Worth Visiting?
Yes, I think My Khe Beach is worth visiting if you are staying in Da Nang.

You do not need to travel far, buy an entrance ticket, or organize a tour. It is easy to fit into almost any itinerary.

I would especially recommend it for travelers who enjoy swimming, morning walks, sunrise photography, or simply want somewhere relaxing between sightseeing days.

If your priority is secluded beaches with very little development, you may prefer exploring quieter areas around Son Tra or farther along the coast.

For a first visit to Da Nang, however, I would still spend at least one morning or late afternoon at My Khe.

Final Tips Before Visiting My Khe Beach
My Khe is one of those places where timing matters more than planning.

Go early if you want cooler temperatures and a glimpse of local morning life. Visit late in the afternoon if you prefer a livelier atmosphere followed by dinner nearby.

Check the weather and sea conditions before swimming, follow lifeguard instructions, protect yourself from the midday sun, and keep an eye on your belongings when you enter the water.

On Triplory, I see My Khe less as an attraction you need to “complete” and more as part of the Da Nang experience. Visit once, and if you enjoy the atmosphere, come back another morning. The beach is easy enough to enjoy without turning it into a tightly scheduled sightseeing stop.
